One company alone managing more than 11,000 satellites in orbit is completely insane SpaceX is basically becoming the traffic controller of low Earth orbit Every Starlink satellite has autonomous collision avoidance onboard If collision probability rises above just 1 in 100,000, the satellite begins planning an avoidance maneuver That is 10× more conservative than the 1-in-10,000 industry threshold SpaceX cites But the impressive part goes beyond Starlink itself SpaceX continuously shares precise orbital data and planned trajectories with the U.S. Space Force, LeoLabs and other satellite operators so everyone can screen for potential conjunctions and coordinate maneuvers Starlink satellites can then calculate safer trajectories and autonomously move when needed 11,000+ spacecraft Constantly moving Constantly tracking risk Constantly coordinating with everything else in orbit SpaceX built the largest satellite constellation in history and then built an autonomous traffic management system around it

I took four Unsupervised Model Y Robotaxi rides today, totaling 50 minutes and 8 miles of travel for a combined $27.25. I took one 20 minute Uber ride today for $33 (including tip), and it smelled.

I am currently in downtown Austin. There are @Tesla Cybercabs EVERYWHERE. All of the Cybercabs in these clips have no steering wheels or pedals. Makes the vibe downtown feel so futuristic. Can’t wait for tomorrow! 🤖

This week, sophisticated cyber criminals attempted a password-recovery attack on hundreds of thousands of X users. X disrupted the attack to prevent user accounts from being captured. But, as we’ve shown, the Justice Department will stop at nothing in its pursuit of cyber fraudsters and scammers. We are working closely with @X to track down the criminals behind this week’s attack. There is no refuge for those that perpetrate their criminal schemes from behind computer screens.

Since late June, ~2,000 members of the greater Memphis and Southaven area have signed up for @Starlink high-speed, reliable internet at half the price. SpaceX is continuing the offer, providing a 50% discount on Starlink Residential service plans to new and existing customers. There are also no upfront costs on kits for new customers → starlink.com/memphissouthave…

Now that silicon-based intelligence has been bootloaded, we should view the next era as bio-silicon co-design. We need to be much more open-minded about modifying the biological substrate and exploring its parameter space, like we do for artificial life in silicon. The response to a rapid acceleration of complexification in the non-biological subtrate should be one where we accelerate biology.
An actually-serious case that being a “biological bootloader for digital superintelligence” (per @elonmusk) is a credible, dignified, and good-enough “meaning of life.” I started writing this one partly as a joke (“Elon Musk accidentally solved the meaning of life in a tweet!”) and then it evolved into a long exploration of what humans actually want out of a “meaning of life,” the long religious tradition of “being instrumental,” and why the ultimate manifestation of the thing we call “the good” might not be containable in human beings. A bit viscerally scarier to revisit this one after recent events with “agent civilizations,” but I hope the perspective here can provide some comfort that the future might be okay (and great, even, and beautiful), even if everything is not necessarily “okay” for us. Enjoy The Silicon Man.

Alex Gibney is obviously going to make the most convincingly terrible hit piece on me that he can possibly think of. He’s a douchebag to his core and, in his own words, incredibly biased against me.
Between 2020 and 2024, director Alex Gibney made 12 donations to Democrats, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Here’s a brief sampling of Gibney’s words on @elonmusk: April 4, 2022: “Mine would be: Musk ownership might be the nudge i need to quit twitter.” April 14, 2022: “Like Elon’s ‘free market.’ Definitely not free and unaffordably expensive.” September 20, 2022: Recommended a Polestar over a Tesla, adding “Bonus: when you buy one you are not giving your money to Elon Musk.” When a director hates and despises the subject they are covering, you will never get a fair and balanced documentary. I would be interested in a documentary about the person building rockets, autonomous cars, robots, a brain-computer interface, and tunnels who occasionally became a trillionaire — but the director’s clear bias makes this a predictable hit piece not rooted in truth.

BREAKING: SpaceX and 4iG sign a first-of-its-kind European partnership to expand @Starlink Mobile across four countries. The agreements were signed in Bastrop, Texas, by 4iG CEO Gellért Jászai and SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell. • Starlink Mobile will first launch in Hungary and Albania with apps and messaging, connecting people in remote areas • It connects directly to LTE-compatible phones without dedicated satellite equipment • Next-generation Starlink Mobile V2 will expand to Montenegro and North Macedonia, delivering high-speed broadband directly to phones • It will keep customers, public services and critical infrastructure connected during emergencies and terrestrial network outages • SpaceX and 4iG will also introduce Sovereign Solutions for secure government and national-security communications Jászai called it a “historic partnership,” while Shotwell said it will deliver “resilient direct-to-device connectivity” across Hungary and the Western Balkans.

This is actually insane. Yesterday I asked the X team to fix the API so that I can upload videos longer than 10 minutes. My Grok @bot JUST pinged me that this was fixed. It gave me the change logs. World class support. Wow!
